Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Family Preservation Services

Family preservation services comprise a continuum of approaches designed to increase the capacity of families to care for their children and therefore minimize or avoid involvement with formal child welfare services. In these instances, the goal is to keep the family together whenever possible by identifying their strengths and then connecting them to resources and services that address the reasons they were referred to NFC. Thus, ensuring their family remains intact.

Foster Care & Kinship Care Services

When children and youth are no longer able to live with their birth families they are placed with a foster care or kinship family.

Foster care services utilize the "Wrap Around Foster Care” model. Social, community, mental health, and health services are "wrapped around” the child and foster family to reinforce natural family supports.

Kinship services are based on the belief that youth belong with, and are best served by, their families. When safety or risk concerns require a child to be removed from his or her family, the first priority is placement with a relative or someone the child knows. The connection is a foster care placement unless or until the kinship family formally adopts the child.

Adoption & Family Finding Services

Adoption services help foster children find loving and supportive adoptive families when reunification with their parents is no longer an option. Adoption Specialists use the "Family Finding” model to search, discover and engage extended family members and other caring adults in the child's life. The goal is to identify safe, caring adults who will provide a child with a lifetime network of support and the opportunity to be adopted into a forever family.

Transition, Independent Living & Prevention Services

Transition and Independent Living services help prepare every eligible youth for the transition to independent living by providing services to assist in obtaining self-sufficiency in adulthood. Independent living may be the permanency objective for a youth age 16 or older whose best interest is served by self-sufficiency. Services focus on life skills training, and other independent living, readiness skills for youth in out-of-home systems.

Prevention services are offered to all families who have worked with PromiseShip in any capacity. The purpose of Prevention services is to ensure that children, youth and families maintain safety, permanency and well-being for at least 12 months following closure of case management. Prevention services include additional follow-up and support that focus on utilizing community supports and services as opposed to contracted services offered by PromiseShip.

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?

PromiseShip's 2017-2019 Strategic Plan goals include:

    GOAL 1:
Strengthen capacity to more effectively assure the health and well-being of children and families.

    GOAL 2:
Increase and diversify revenue to increase effectiveness in services for families and children.

    GOAL 3:
Increase public awareness of PromiseShip's commitment and capacity to strengthen families and children.

What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?

To achieve the three goals of the 2017-2019 Strategic Plan, PromiseShip will implement the following strategies:

    GOAL 1 OBJECTIVES:

1.1 Meet or exceed the targets for Round Three of the Child and Family Service Reviews (CFSR).

1.2 Increase front line staff recruitment, development, and retention.

1.3 Develop and implement and integrated information technology system to support staff and document effectiveness.

What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?

For nearly a decade, PromiseShip has delivered innovative services and strategies that have helped make significant improvements in how we help families be families. We use evidence-based and promising practices, and employ a workforce of nearly 400 employees dedicated to the success of every family PromiseShip serves. We built and manage a connected network of 40+ community-based service providers who ensure that every child and family receives the right services at the right time. Annual marketing and fundraising plans help engage donors in our mission, and help attract volunteers, advocates and future employees. Annual recruitment and retention plans are also developed and implemented to ensure we not only attract high quality talent, but that we also retain that talent year-after-year.

What have they accomplished so far and what's next?

The 2017-2019 Strategic Plan was launched in January 2017. It is too early yet to report on progress towards these goals and strategies.
