About Penang

Island Hospital | Plan A Visit (3)

George Town, Penang

George Town, the capital city of Penang is home to a beautiful amalgamation of cuisine, culture and English and Asian architectural influence as a direct result of the intermingling of the many ethnicities and religions that arrived on the beachy shores of George Town.

Penang cuisine is famed for road-side stalls or better known as ‘hawker food’ that fares far more cheaper and easier to find as these hawker stalls are open during the day and night. Lonely Planet rated Penang as the top culinary destination in 2014.

The city has preserved remnants of cultural heritage such as the Peranakans whose architectural and cuisine influence is very much visible to this day. The historical core of this city has been debossed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009 and there are over 12,000 buildings that are composed of shophouses, churches, government offices and monuments.

Penang is the place to be and is complete with shopping malls, luxurious hotels, top tier healthcare, diverse cuisine and a preserved heritage and history to visit.

Visa (International Patient)

Visa for International Patient

Prior to entering Malaysia, if required, a foreign national must acquire a Visa – an endorsement in a passport or other recognised travel document of a foreign national, indicating that the holder has applied for permission to enter Malaysia and that permission has been granted.

All foreign nationals who require a Visa to enter Malaysia must apply and obtain a Visa in advance at any Malaysian Representative Office or Malaysian Embassy abroad, before entering Malaysia.

For short-term stays up to 30 days, the Malaysian government does not require most foreign nationals to acquire a Visa. However, depending on your country of origin, there may still be Visa requirements. It is best to check in your home country, before you travel.

Foreign nationals seeking medical treatment may apply for a Visa extension upon request to the Malaysian Immigration.
